Privacy policy

This page explains what Defiant Solutions Co collects when you use defiantsolutionsco.com, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it to what the site needs to work.

The short version

• You can read everything on the site without an account.
• We don't sell your information and we don't show ads. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used.
• If you comment or create an account, we store what you give us so the site can show it and log you in.
• You can ask us to delete your account and comments at any time.

What we collect

When you browse

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and basic request details, such as the page asked for and your browser type, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We use Cloudflare's analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It does not use cookies or build a profile of you.

We also keep our own count of page views by day, page and the site you came from. It is a tally only: it isn't linked to you, your IP address or your account.

If you accept it in the banner shown on your first visit, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site: which pages are read, roughly where visitors are, what kind of device they use, and which site or search sent them. Google then sets cookies in your browser to tell one visit from another. If you decline, or don't answer, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all. We don't send Google your name, email address, username or comments, and Google Analytics does not run on the account or admin pages.

When you leave a comment

We store the name you enter, your comment, the page it is on and the time. Your name and comment are public. To limit spam we also store a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address. We can't turn it back into your address, and we don't store the address itself with your comment.

When you create an account

• Username. Shown publicly next to your comments.
• Password. Stored only as a salted hash. We never see or keep the password itself.
• Email address, if you give one. It is optional. We use it to send you confirmation codes, password reset links, sign-in links and, if you choose email codes for two-step verification, a login code each time you sign in. We don't send marketing email.
• Two-step verification, if you turn it on. We store the authenticator key in encrypted form and your recovery codes as one-way hashes.
• Notifications. When another member replies to you or tags you with @username, we store a notification so we can show it to you.
• Security records. The time you signed up, a scrambled version of the IP address used to sign up, and failed login attempts, which are deleted after a day.

When you email us

We keep your message and email address so we can reply.

Cookies

We set our own cookies only when you log in:

• A session cookie that keeps you logged in for up to 30 days, or until you log out. Page scripts can't read it.
• A marker that tells the page to show "Account" in place of "Log in". It holds no personal information.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies, with names beginning _ga, on the public pages. They hold a random number that identifies your browser to Google Analytics for up to two years. We have not turned on Google's advertising features, and we don't use advertising cookies.

Other companies involved

• Cloudflare hosts the site and its database, provides analytics, and runs the "verify you're human" check on the login and comment forms. That check looks at signals from your browser to tell people from bots.
• Google provides Google Analytics. It receives the pages you view, your IP address and details of your browser and device, and handles them under Google's privacy policy.
• Resend delivers the emails described above. It receives your email address and the message.
• Google Fonts supplies the typefaces. Your browser requests them from Google, which sees your IP address.
• YouTube hosts the videos in our reviews. We embed them in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube may collect information once you play one.
• Links to other sites, such as manufacturers, Amazon and app stores, take you off our site. Their own privacy policies apply there.

How we use it

We use what we collect to show comments, log you in, keep accounts secure, stop spam and abuse, understand which reviews people read, and answer you when you contact us. We don't sell it, rent it, or use it for advertising.

We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and the people who use it.

How long we keep it

• Comments stay until you or we delete them.
• Account details stay until the account is deleted.
• Login sessions expire after 30 days.
• Failed login records are deleted after one day.

Your choices

• Google Analytics only runs if you accepted it. To change your answer: Change my choice. If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control, the site never asks and never loads it.
• If you're logged in, you can delete your own comments from the review page or your account page.
• You can change your username and delete your account, along with all your comments, from your account page.
• You can change your password and turn two-step verification on or off from your account page.
• To delete your account, remove an email address, or get a copy of what we hold about you, email Sales@defiantsolutionsco.com with your username.

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct or delete your information. Email us and we will honor them.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, authenticator keys are encrypted, repeated failed logins lock an account for a time, and you can add two-step verification. No system is perfectly secure, so use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Children

This site is written for adults. Accounts are for people 18 and older, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant we will say so on the site.
